The Senate has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Magaji, over what lawmakers described as repeated failure to honour invitations extended by the upper legislative chamber.
The resolution followed deliberations during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance attended by members of the President’s economic management team.
Tension reportedly arose at the commencement of the meeting when a roll call of heads of government agencies revealed the absence of the CAC Registrar-General, who was expected to brief the committee on the commission’s operations and financial records.
Apparently displeased by the development, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu moved a motion urging the immediate removal of the CAC boss, accusing him of persistently ignoring summons issued by the committee.
According to Kalu, the Registrar-General had consistently cited official engagements at the Presidential Villa as reasons for his absence.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, also expressed concern over unresolved discrepancies relating to the reconciliation of the commission’s revenue, noting that several invitations extended to the CAC leadership to clarify the issues were not honoured.
Contributing to the debate, Senator Adams Oshiomhole recommended stronger legislative action, including the suspension of consideration of the commission’s 2026 budget until the agency complies with legislative oversight.
Following deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion, urging the President to relieve the Registrar-General of his duties in the interest of accountability and effective legislative oversight.
