In a move that has drawn widespread attention, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has decided not to join the recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and 22 of his commissioners.
The announcement of the mass defection by the Adamawa State government to the APC earlier this week left many observers speculating about the fate of key government officials. However, Adamu Atiku Abubakar was notably absent from the delegation that publicly declared their new alignment.
Sources close to the commissioner indicate that he has chosen to remain loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for now, although no official statement has yet been issued by him to explain his decision.
Political watchers say Adamu’s decision positions him as one of the few top government officials in Adamawa yet to switch allegiance, highlighting potential rifts within the state’s political landscape following Fintiri’s defection.
The recent shift has cemented the APC’s dominance in the country, with the party now controlling a majority of states across Nigeria.
