Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Thursday distributed fertilizers, agrochemicals, and other critical farm inputs to farmers in the state, aiming to boost dry-season farming and improve agricultural productivity.
The distribution, launched at the Fadama III facility of the Ministry of Agriculture in Gusau, included 3,920 bags of NPK fertilizer, 1,956 bags of urea fertilizer, 3,920 litres of herbicide, 1,956 litres of insecticide, and 3,920 sachets of seed-dressing chemicals, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal said the initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to enhance food security, increase crop yields, and promote sustainable farming practices across the state.
“We all know that farming is the backbone of our economy. It is our responsibility to support our farmers with the resources they need to thrive,” Lawal said. “This programme will bolster dry-season farming not just in Zamfara but across the nation.”
The governor highlighted that previous NG-CARES programmes have reached tens of thousands of smallholder farmers, providing improved seeds, agrochemicals, and technical guidance to enhance agricultural output.
Lawal also acknowledged the security challenges facing farmers and assured that his administration would continue to strengthen community security while supporting agricultural interventions.
He commended the federal government and development partners for their support of the NG-CARES programme, noting that combining inputs with advisory services has improved crop yields, incomes, and food security.
The governor pledged sustained collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of agricultural policies aimed at developing the state’s economy.
