25 Osun Assembly Members Follow Adeleke to Accord Party Ahead of Governorship Poll

In a major political realignment, twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly, all elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election, have officially defected to the Accord Party.

The lawmakers made the move on Friday, mirroring the decision of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who in December 2025 left the PDP for Accord and has since been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest the August 15 governorship election.

According to a statement by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, the lawmakers reached their decision during a parliamentary meeting and later formalized it at the Banquet Hall with the governor and top Accord Party officials.

“They reaffirmed their unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and their commitment to quality representation, transparency, and responsive leadership,” the statement read. “Their decision is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and accelerating development for the people of Osun State.”

Tiamiyu added that the lawmakers had resigned from the PDP weeks ago after consultations with supporters, political associates, and key stakeholders, concluding that Accord Party offers a more stable, inclusive, and people-centred platform for serving the state.

With the mass defection, the 26-member Assembly now has Mr. Femi Popoola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the lone opposition lawmaker.

The development marks a significant consolidation of political power for Governor Adeleke as he seeks re-election later this year.
