Alleged N100m Transfer: Police Say Egbetokun’s Son Returned Funds, Petitions EFCC

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed allegations surrounding a N100 million transfer into the personal bank account of Victor Egbetokun, son of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, describing the transaction as a mistake that was promptly reversed.
The clarification follows an online report alleging that the sum was paid from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account into Victor’s account.
Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the young Egbetokun immediately alerted his bank upon noticing the unexpected inflow and directed that the funds be returned.
According to Hundeyin, the N100 million was reversed shortly after it was detected.
“You would recall the allegation that N100 million was paid into the account of the son of the IGP. I immediately reached out to him for clarification. He confirmed that he saw the amount and instructed his account officer to reverse it without delay,” Hundeyin stated.
He added that the statement of account was printed as evidence, showing that the transaction had been successfully reversed.
The police spokesman further disclosed that Victor has since petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), requesting a thorough investigation into the allegation.
Hundeyin described the incident as a case of mistaken transfer, maintaining that the funds were returned to the originating account once the error was identified.
The development comes amid heightened public scrutiny over financial transactions linked to public office holders and their associates.
