Osun 2026: Ex-O’Meal Vendors Endorse ADC Guber Candidate, Salaam, Urge Others to Join ‘Moving Train’

Former vendors of the Osun school feeding programme, popularly known as O’Meal, under the administration of Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam, at his Ogo-Oluwa residence in Osogbo.
The visit was marked by emotion and solidarity as members of the forum declared their endorsement of Salaam ahead of the 2026 governorship election, describing his candidacy as a “moving train” that well-meaning citizens should not miss.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs. Kafayat Owo Iya said the decision to support Salaam followed extensive consultations among vendors across the state.
According to her, the O’Meal initiative during Aregbesola’s administration provided not only a steady source of income but also restored dignity and strengthened many households.
“We are here as mothers, as businesswomen and as beneficiaries of policies that once put food on our tables and hope in our homes. We understand what compassionate governance means. After careful consideration, we have resolved to endorse Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam and pledge our unwavering support for his governorship ambition,” she said.
Owo Iya urged other groups, market associations and residents of the state to rally behind Salaam’s candidacy.
“This is a moving train. We encourage others across Osun State to come on board and join hands in building a better and more inclusive future for our people,” she added.
In his response, Dr. Salaam expressed gratitude for the endorsement, describing it as deeply touching.
“I am sincerely grateful for this show of trust. Initiatives like O’Meal succeeded because they were designed to touch lives directly. My commitment is to champion programmes that empower women, support small businesses and create opportunities for our youths,” he said.
He assured the delegation that his aspiration is anchored on inclusive governance, transparency and people-centred policies aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
The visit ended with prayers and renewed optimism, as the vendors pledged to mobilise support across communities for the ADC candidate in 2026.
