The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the just-concluded Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, Dr. Moses Paul Ogigi, has rejected the outcome of the poll, insisting that he was in clear lead before what he described as “magic” altered the process.
Ogigi, popularly known as Dr. Mo, claimed that as of 3:00 p.m. on election day, results from across polling units indicated he had secured victory, alleging that events that followed undermined the integrity of the exercise.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, the ADC candidate described the poll as a “defining moment” in Nigeria’s democratic journey, not for reflecting the will of the people, but for exposing what he termed systemic obstacles to credible elections.
“I came into this race believing in democracy and in the resilience of the people of Abuja,” he said. “With the change in INEC leadership, I expected a new standard. By 3:00 p.m., we had already won across board, and then magic began to happen.”
He further alleged irregularities, including the imposition of curfews, mutilation of results, widespread vote-buying, and harassment of ADC members at various polling units.
“It is disheartening to witness the imposition of curfew, the mutilation of results, and the harassment of our members. I have never seen such a heightened level of vote-buying as was recorded in this election,” Ogigi stated.
The ADC candidate maintained that he does not accept the declared results and signalled his intention to challenge the outcome through appropriate channels.
