The Kwara State Government has strengthened healthcare delivery at the Osi Campus of Kwara State University (KWASU) with the donation of modern hospital equipment to the institution’s clinic.
The intervention, officials said, is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services across the state, including within tertiary institutions.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Prof. Nusirat Elelu, said the initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare through sustained investment in infrastructure and manpower development.
Elelu attributed the progress recorded in the health sector to the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the state has continued to prioritise equitable healthcare delivery across the 16 local government areas.
According to her, Kwara has emerged as a pacesetter in primary healthcare performance, clinching the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge award for three consecutive years and ranking first in the North Central zone in health preparedness indicators.
She added that the state’s recognition as one of the safest for maternal health outcomes in Nigeria reflects deliberate policy direction, continuous training of health workers and sustained recruitment to bridge manpower gaps.
“The agency remains committed to coordinating primary healthcare services in line with national standards and global best practices,” Elelu said, assuring that the momentum in service delivery would be sustained.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the university, the Head of the Osi Campus and Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Binta Ajibola Suleiman, commended the state government for what she described as a timely and impactful intervention.
She said the swift approval and delivery of the items underscored the administration’s concern for the wellbeing of students and staff.
Suleiman pledged the university’s readiness to collaborate with the state on health-related initiatives that would also benefit host communities in Osi.
Items delivered to the clinic include hospital beds, mattresses and pillows, as well as diagnostic and laboratory equipment such as centrifuge machines, sphygmomanometers and test tubes. Clinical uniforms, medical footwear and other essential consumables were also supplied to ensure seamless service delivery.
