Bandit Threat Letter: Kwara LG Boss Calls Urgent Security Parley, Assures Residents of Protection

The Chairman of Oyun Local Government in Kwara State, Akanbi Kamar Olarewaju, has convened an emergency security meeting following reports of a threat letter allegedly issued by suspected bandits warning of planned attacks in parts of the council area.

The meeting, held at the council secretariat in Ilemona, brought together security operatives, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders to assess the situation and map out preventive measures.

Addressing participants, the council boss disclosed that the local government received intelligence concerning a letter purportedly written by unidentified persons, claiming they had moved from Kaiama Local Government and were planning coordinated attacks around Irra and Aho/Inaja communities.

He explained that while security agencies are still verifying the authenticity and origin of the letter, the council deemed it necessary to act swiftly to forestall any possible breach of peace.

Olarewaju urged residents not to panic but to remain alert and security-conscious, stressing the importance of promptly reporting suspicious movements and unfamiliar individuals across all communities within the local government.

He emphasized that strengthened synergy among security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders remains vital to sustaining law and order, noting that community-based intelligence and timely information sharing are critical tools in crime prevention.

The chairman also commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for ongoing security interventions at the national and state levels, pledging the council’s full cooperation with all security initiatives.

He reassured residents that authorities are on top of the situation and will continue to work closely with relevant agencies to safeguard lives and property, while calling for calm and collective vigilance among citizens.
