The Osun State Government has alleged that the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, is planning a protest aimed at causing unrest during the scheduled visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state on Friday, warning residents not to be misled or drawn into activities capable of breaching public peace.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government claimed it uncovered what it described as a “sinister plan” by the opposition to sponsor a protest and create disorder, allegedly to frame the state government and discredit the current administration.
The commissioner said the government would not be intimidated by what he called clandestine moves to trigger a breakdown of law and order, adding that security agencies and the public should remain vigilant.
According to the statement, the planned protest is allegedly designed to blackmail the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and create tension ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Alimi maintained that neither the Accord Party nor the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun has any connection with the planned protest, despite ongoing disputes surrounding withheld local government allocations and political disagreements over council administration.
He said the government remains confident that the issues surrounding local government structures and allocations would be resolved through legal processes, insisting that justice would ultimately prevail.
The statement further alleged that the All Progressives Congress is attempting to stage a diversionary action during the president’s visit, but claimed the move had already failed before execution due to what it described as widespread public support for the current administration.
The government specifically advised residents to stay away from Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the venue linked to the presidential visit activities, to avoid being caught in any disturbance that may arise from the alleged protest.
It added that Osun remains peaceful and that residents should go about their lawful activities without fear, while cooperating with security directives throughout the duration of the presidential visit.
