2027 Polls: Presidential, NASS Elections Hold Feb 20 — INEC Releases Full Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday announced that Nigeria’s next presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections have been scheduled for March 6, 2027.

The announcement was made in Abuja by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, during a press briefing where the Commission unveiled its official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.

According to the Commission, preparations for the election timeline have been concluded and formally communicated to the National Assembly, despite the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act currently under legislative consideration.

INEC noted that while the main dates have now been fixed, certain components of the activity schedule may still be adjusted depending on when lawmakers finalize and pass the amended Electoral Act.

The electoral body had earlier indicated, on February 4, that work on the election timetable had been completed, stressing its readiness to proceed with planning to avoid last-minute disruptions.

Officials also hinted that legal and procedural updates tied to the proposed amendments could influence specific operational stages of the electoral process.

The development comes amid heightened political activity and early alignments by parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
