Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, bringing the tenure of all commissioners and special advisers in his administration to an abrupt end.
The decision was conveyed through a Special Government Announcement issued on Thursday and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi.
According to the statement, all affected political appointees have been directed to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries, departments and agencies to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their offices with immediate effect.
Though no official reason was given for the sweeping dissolution, the move is widely seen as a significant restructuring of the executive arm of government in Rivers State and may signal plans for the reconstitution of a new cabinet.
The governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing Executive Council members for their services and contributions to the development of the state, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
More details are expected in the coming days regarding fresh appointments and the direction of the administration.
