Lagos: Two Men Nabbed Over N58,000 Rice Theft in Badagry

 

Two men, Agbo Agbonopo, 20, and Salisu Abubakar, 25, appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday for allegedly stealing a bag of rice valued at N58,000.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on February 2, 2026, at about 2:30 pm in Gbaji area of Seme Border, Badagry.

Ekpo said the defendants conspired to steal the rice belonging to one Francis Adeyemi and were apprehended while attempting to sell it, after which they were handed over to the police.

The offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the accused bail of N500,000 each, with two sureties in the same sum. One of the sureties must be a recognized community leader.

The case has been adjourned to March 4, 2026, for mention.
