Government has reaffirmed its readiness for the full adoption of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams, in line with the Federal Government’s directive to gradually transition from paper-based to digital testing.
Speaking on Friday, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde has directed plans to procure over 60,000 laptops for public senior secondary schools across the state. The move is aimed at positioning Oyo State ahead in the full implementation of WAEC CBT examinations.
Olayiwola made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to his office by the Zonal Coordinator and Deputy Registrar of WAEC, Mr. Waheed Amode, and his management team. He commended WAEC for its proactive measures during the 2025 examinations and pledged continued support in curbing examination malpractice and protecting school facilities from vandalism.
In his remarks, Amode described the Ministry of Education as a key stakeholder in WAEC’s success over the years. He noted that registration for the 2026 May/June WAEC examination closed on February 2, 2026, and confirmed that the forthcoming exams would be conducted in both CBT and paper-based modes, depending on the readiness of individual schools.
Amode urged schools interested in full CBT participation to formally communicate their readiness. He further warned that severe penalties, including cancellation of results, await any candidate caught with mobile phones in the examination hall, emphasizing the role of principals and teachers in maintaining examination integrity.
