In a swift response to one of the deadliest attacks in recent Kwara State history, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of a military battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area following the brutal assault on Nuku and Woro communities on Tuesday.
Rauf Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, told Patriotic Insights News that at least 75 residents were killed by suspected terrorists during the attack.
In a statement released Wednesday night, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesperson, said Tinubu has inaugurated the new military command to lead “Operation Savannah Shield”, aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and dismantling terrorist networks in the region.
The statement described the attackers as “heartless” for targeting defenseless civilians who rejected extremist indoctrination, choosing instead to practice a peaceful form of Islam.
“President Tinubu condemned the cowardly and beastly attack and commended the resilience of the community members for refusing to be conscripted into violent ideologies,” the statement added.
Tinubu also called for close collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide relief to affected residents and ensure that those responsible for the atrocities face justice.
The President prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and condoled with families of the deceased, as well as the people and government of Kwara State.
