National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Thursday, attracted a massive crowd as he visited Singa Market in Kano to sympathise with traders affected by a recent fire incident.
Kwankwaso’s arrival triggered excitement across the area as hundreds of youths and traders trooped out to catch a glimpse of the former Kano State governor.
His convoy, which moved through Bello Road, was forced to slow down due to the large number of supporters who surrounded the vehicles, chanting pro-Kwankwaso slogans, including “Kano sai Kwankwaso.”
On reaching the market, the former presidential candidate stepped out of his vehicle and walked into the crowd, acknowledging cheers and waving repeatedly to supporters. He also flashed a victory sign, further energising the gathering.
The development led to temporary disruption of commercial activities in parts of Kano Central, with movement restricted on some adjoining roads as residents and traders paused their activities to watch the procession.
Kwankwaso appeared in his signature white traditional attire and red cap — a symbol strongly associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement.
The visit comes amid shifting political dynamics in the state following the reported defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress, APC, with indications pointing to a possible fresh electoral contest involving the NNPP and other parties.
