A faction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reshuffle his cabinet and remove ministers alleged to be underperforming, warning that inaction could jeopardize the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made by the APC League of Democrats in a statement signed on Monday by its National Coordinator, Hon. Babajide Oyewole, and Secretary, Chief Rowland Okonkwo, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
Describing the cabinet reshuffle as “long overdue,” the group said some ministers had distinguished themselves and should be retained, while others needed to be replaced to ensure efficiency and effective service delivery.
“Those ministers who are up and doing, such as the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, could be retained. Others should be reshuffled to restore performance and public confidence,” the statement said.
The APC League of Democrats accused some finance ministers of disregarding presidential directives to resolve a longstanding impasse between the Federal Government and indigenous contractors, whose payments totaling about N4 trillion remain outstanding.
The statement also cited ongoing protests by contractors, civil society groups, and recent demonstrations by lawyers at the Finance Ministry as evidence of the urgent need to remove “unproductive ministers.”
“The President must act promptly to protect the government’s image, ensure efficiency, and safeguard the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections,” it added.
