NECO Unveils 2025 SSCE External Results, 71.63% Secure Five Credits as Malpractice Cases Rise

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, announcing that 71.63 percent of candidates obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this on Tuesday at the Council’s headquarters in Minna. He noted that the results were released 52 days after the examination, which was conducted nationwide between November 26 and December 13, 2025.

According to him, a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, while 95,160 sat for the papers. Of this number, 50,785 were male candidates, representing 53.36 percent, while 44,375 were female, accounting for 46.64 percent.

Prof. Wushishi stated that 68,166 candidates earned five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. He added that 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 percent, secured five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.
The NECO boss, however, expressed concern over the increase in examination malpractice cases.

He revealed that 9,016 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice, compared to 6,160 recorded in 2024 — an increase of 31.7 percent.
He further disclosed that five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for their involvement in aiding and abetting examination malpractice.

The affected supervisors include two from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ogun states.

In addition, four examination centres were recommended for de-registration over malpractice-related offences. These include two centres in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano states.

NECO reiterated its commitment to strengthening monitoring mechanisms and maintaining the integrity of its examinations nationwide.
