Otti: Labour Party Will Not Join Any Coalition Ahead of 2027 Polls

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that the Labour Party (LP) will not enter into any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party already represents a broad-based alliance of Nigerians with progressive ideals.

Otti made the statement on Saturday while addressing journalists after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

According to him, the Labour Party is itself a coalition made up of workers and like-minded citizens committed to national progress, stressing that there is no plan to merge with or join any other political bloc.

“Labour Party is already a coalition — a coalition of Nigerian workers and progressive-minded people. So when people talk about joining another coalition, we have no such plans,” he said.

The NEC meeting took place days after a Federal High Court in Abuja affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s legitimate leadership.

Governor Otti confirmed that INEC has complied with the court order by updating its records, removing Abure’s name from its official portal and replacing it with that of the caretaker committee leadership.

However, Abure has rejected the ruling, describing it as unacceptable, and has indicated plans to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
