ICPC, NBA Forge Alliance to Strengthen Legal Integrity, Anti-Corruption Drive

 

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Corruption Committee (NBAA-CC) have entered into a strategic partnership to promote professional integrity and strengthen the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

The two institutions signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

The first MoU commits the ICPC and NBAA-CC to joint efforts in promoting ethical standards in the legal profession, building capacity, raising public awareness, and advocating for sound policy reforms.

The second MoU, in collaboration with the ICPC’s Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), focuses on education, training, and research as tools for long-term systemic change.

Speaking at the ceremony, Babafemi Badejo, chairman of NBAA-CC, described the MoUs as a “comprehensive strategy that blends enforcement, prevention, education, and cultural reshaping.”

“This is more than a signing ceremony,” Badejo said. “It is a declaration that the guardians of the law and the fighters of corruption are formally aligned. We are committed to a future where transparency, accountability, and rule of law are the pillars of our society.”

ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu hailed the partnership as a “strategic alliance anchored in shared values, ethics, and service to Nigerians.”

He added: “Collaboration with ACAN underscores our belief that the fight against corruption requires knowledge, research, and systematic skills development. Through training, joint programmes, and intellectual exchange, we aim to nurture legal practitioners who see integrity not as an aspiration, but as a professional duty.”

Aliyu also commended the NBA leadership for institutionalising the Anti-Corruption Committee, noting that lawyers are indispensable partners in shaping a just and transparent society.
