Plateau on Road to Lasting Peace, Stability as Gov Mutfwang Joins APC — Yilwatda

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has said Plateau State is now firmly on the path of peace, unity and political stability following the defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the ruling party.

Yilwatda spoke on Tuesday during a reception organised to formally welcome Governor Mutfwang into the APC, describing the move as a clear demonstration of the party’s growing national appeal and capacity for inclusive governance.

According to him, the governor’s defection goes beyond political realignment, representing a collective resolve to foster peace, cohesion and sustainable development in Plateau State.

“The decision of Governor Mutfwang to join the APC is a strong statement of confidence in our party’s philosophy of unity, inclusion and purposeful leadership,” Yilwatda said.

He noted that the development had led to the collapse of opposition political structures in the state, with key stakeholders from other parties already aligning with the APC.

“This convergence reflects the confidence of the people in the APC as a party of unity and action. Plateau State is now firmly positioned for political stability and collective progress,” he added.

Yilwatda stressed that the APC’s objective was not intimidation or exclusion, but responsible leadership anchored on peace and development.

“Our coming together is not driven by sentiment. It is about moving Plateau State in the right direction. Unity brings peace, and peace is the foundation of development,” he said.

“With this renewed unity, peace will permeate every community across Plateau State.”

The APC chairman further stated that the strength of the party lies in its ability to unite Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides.

“Today, we are united as citizens, united in equality and brotherhood. This is the time for unity, peace, progress and justice in Plateau State,” he declared.

He explained that the APC’s broom symbol represents the party’s resolve to sweep away division, disunity and political fragmentation across the country.

At the national level, Yilwatda said the APC continues to expand its influence, noting that the party currently governs 29 states nationwide.

He attributed the party’s growth to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as a reform-minded leader committed to economic stability and national development.

“Before President Tinubu assumed office, nearly 30 states were struggling to pay salaries. Today, states are meeting their obligations and have renewed capacity for infrastructure development,” Yilwatda said.

He assured Governor Mutfwang of the party’s full backing ahead of future elections, expressing confidence that the governor would secure a second term.

“The APC will stand firmly with Governor Caleb Mutfwang. With our collective strength and the support of the people, we are confident he will be returned for a second term,” he stated.

Yilwatda also called on remaining political stakeholders in the state to join the APC, urging them to embrace what he described as a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous Plateau State.

“I invite those still standing on the sidelines to join the majority. Come to the party that offers opportunity, unity and a shared future,” he said.

Recall that Yilwatda had, on January 2, announced Governor Mutfwang’s defection to the APC. Hours later, Senator Simon Lalong, representing Plateau South and former governor of the state, informed party members that his leadership of the APC in Plateau had ended following the governor’s exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
