With God’s help, Rivers will overcome current trials — Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that the state will surmount its current political and governance challenges, declaring that divine support remains the bedrock of the administration’s resolve and stability.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Ngozi Odu, spoke on Sunday at the 2026 Holy Ghost Rally organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Fubara described the theme of the rally, “The All-Sufficient God”, as timely, noting that it reinforces the belief that God remains an unfailing source of wisdom, strength and direction in moments of uncertainty.

“With the Almighty God on our side, our challenges are surmountable and our future remains hopeful,” the governor said.

He added that when human capacity reaches its limit, divine sufficiency prevails, stressing that the Rivers State Government continues to draw strength from its faith in God to sustain leadership, institutions and the people.

The governor commended the RCCG for its consistent prayers for Rivers State and Nigeria, lauding the church’s role in promoting moral values, unity and spiritual growth among citizens.

In his sermon taken from Genesis 17:1, the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, described God as all-sufficient, capable of meeting every human need.

Adeboye noted that while human efforts, including medical and technical interventions, may reach their limits, there are situations where only divine intervention can bring restoration and turnaround.

Also speaking, the Pastor-in-Charge of the Rivers Province of the RCCG, Pastor Adesoji Oni, said the Port Harcourt Holy Ghost Rally, which commenced in 2015, has grown into a major annual spiritual gathering with far-reaching impact on the state.

Oni disclosed that beyond preaching, the church has expanded its Christian social responsibility initiatives to include skills acquisition centres, maternity facilities, a rehabilitation centre for persons battling substance abuse, and an innovative mind hub across Rivers State.

Meanwhile, Rivers State has been grappling with a lingering political crisis arising from the rift between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

On January 8, the Rivers State House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy following allegations of gross misconduct endorsed by 26 lawmakers.

The crisis intensified after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state, as well as following Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
