The Accord Party in Osun State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of what it described as leadership failure and evasion of public scrutiny, following the ruling party’s alleged disowning of an economic blueprint earlier credited to its governorship candidate, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola (AMBO).
In a statement issued on Monday, the Osun State Chairman of Accord, Pastor Victor Akande, said the APC’s position on the document was contradictory, noting that the same blueprint earlier circulated by the party was later dismissed as “imaginary” after coming under criticism.
According to Akande, the economic blueprint was publicly released and aggressively promoted by the APC candidate’s media team across several platforms, making it legitimate for stakeholders, including the state government, to interrogate its contents.
“You cannot release a blueprint in the morning, defend it in the afternoon, and disown it at night, then accuse others of imagination,” Akande said.
The Accord chairman argued that the APC’s reversal followed what he described as a swift and detailed response from the Adeleke administration, which allegedly exposed the document as lacking originality and substance.
He described the APC’s action as an “embarrassing somersault,” adding that the party resorted to insults and name-calling instead of addressing policy concerns raised against the blueprint.
“Instead of responding with facts and alternatives, the APC descended into personal attacks. That is a clear sign of intellectual bankruptcy,” he stated.
Akande further questioned the preparedness of the APC candidate for governance if he could neither control his media team nor take responsibility for a policy document issued in his name.
“If AMBO cannot take responsibility for a campaign blueprint, then he lacks the moral prerequisite for governing a complex state like Osun,” he added.
The Accord chairman also faulted the APC’s claim that its candidate had not launched any blueprint, while simultaneously portraying him as competent and prepared for office.
“Prepared for what, if not with ideas and plans?” he queried.
In contrast, Akande said Governor Ademola Adeleke was governing with visible results, citing improvements in infrastructure, digital economy initiatives, local content enforcement, debt management, agro-industrial revival, and grassroots empowerment.
He maintained that the APC’s reaction was driven by fear of a government delivering tangible outcomes and confident enough to subject policies to public debate.
“The people of Osun saw the blueprint when it was released, and they saw it being disowned when it collapsed under scrutiny,” Akande said.
He urged the Osun APC to conduct its affairs with greater seriousness and consistency, stressing that the state deserved leaders who could stand by their ideas and defend them with facts.
