Fubara Recognised as APC Leader in Rivers, Wike ‘Adequately Compensated’ — Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has affirmed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the recognised leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

Bwala’s comments follow a period of political tension in the state, as the Rivers House of Assembly continues impeachment proceedings against Fubara amid a public clash between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

APC Leadership in Rivers

Speaking on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, Bwala noted that President Tinubu aligns with the position of APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who stated that governors have the privilege of leading their party at the state level.

“I agree with the national chairman’s position that in Rivers State, Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC. Wike is not a member of the party, so he cannot speak for the APC,” Bwala said.

He added that while Wike may be regarded as a leader within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC leadership in Rivers rests solely with Fubara.

Respecting Party Rules and Due Process

Bwala stressed that President Tinubu supports adherence to party rules and democratic principles. “The president believes in the rule of law and due process, and the party will always respect that,” he said.

Addressing concerns about Wike’s influence within the federal government, Bwala said, “Wike has been adequately compensated. The president believes in giving latitude, but national interest comes first. No one should cross the line.”

He further noted that the ongoing cold war between Wike and Fubara is being managed. “Court orders have temporarily halted the impeachment, but the governor must be allowed to govern Rivers State without undue interference,” Bwala said.

Bwala concluded that the president’s stance underscores his commitment to democratic stability, constitutional order, and party discipline across Nigeria.
