No arms found in my residence, Malami insists

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has dismissed reports alleging that arms or ammunition were discovered in any residence linked to him, describing the claims as false and baseless.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami said no security agency has at any time informed him, his family or his legal representatives that such items were recovered from his home.

The former AGF accused sections of the media of conducting a trial by publicity, warning against the circulation of unverified allegations presented as established facts.

According to the statement, Malami has not been convicted of any offence, stressing that allegations or ongoing investigations must not be equated with guilt, in line with the constitutional presumption of innocence.

He also denied any link to terrorism or terrorism financing, noting that the allegations were made without reference to any individual, organisation, transaction or verifiable evidence.

“We categorically reject claims that any cache of arms or ammunition was discovered in any residence linked to Abubakar Malami, SAN,” the statement said.

“We also firmly deny allegations or insinuations linking Abubakar Malami, SAN, to terrorism, terrorism financing or related activities. Such claims are speculative, irresponsible and unsupported by any credible evidence.”

Doka further alleged that since Malami’s arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday, he has been denied access to his family and legal team, raising concerns over his welfare and constitutional rights.

The statement noted that the sustained media reports have subjected Malami’s family and associates to undue hardship and emotional distress.

It also pointed out that Malami, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has publicly declared his intention to contest the 2027 Kebbi State governorship election, cautioning against the politicisation of legal processes.

Malami, the statement added, remains committed to the rule of law and due process, urging the media to clearly distinguish between allegations and facts while allowing lawful procedures to take their course.
