The Accord has dismissed recent allegations by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) questioning Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to teachers’ welfare and recruitment, describing the claims as dishonest and politically motivated.
Speaking on Wednesday, James Bamgbose, State Deputy Director of the Accord’s Media Office, said, “The APC, whose tenure in the state was marked by irregular payment of salaries, politicised recruitment, and dilapidated schools, appears agitated by the structured reforms being implemented by the Adeleke administration.”
“The APC’s narrative on teachers’ recruitment is deeply ironic. They hurriedly recruited teachers in the past as an election stunt, failed to provide sustainable funding, and left the system disorganised,” Bamgbose added. “Governor Adeleke, on the other hand, has approached recruitment with verified vacancies, sustainable wage planning, and long-term educational reforms. Governance is not a raffle draw, and Osun State is not an experimental ground.”
The party also addressed the APC’s criticism of the Executive Order on teacher recruitment, insisting that the action was a necessary correction of previous irregularities and an effort to ensure legality and sustainability.
Accusing the APC of selective memory regarding local government autonomy, the Accord said, “Their sudden concern for council independence ignores years of mismanagement and diversion of local government funds under their watch.”
On financial matters, the Accord maintained that the Adeleke administration has consistently met its obligations to workers despite inherited liabilities and systemic challenges.
“Salary obligations are being met, welfare is protected, and dignity has been restored to public service,” Bamgbose added, urging the APC to focus less on political theatrics and more on explaining its record to Osun people.
