Ribadu debunks rumour of mother’s death

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has dismissed as false an online report claiming that his mother died on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Ribadu described the publication as misleading, saying it created unnecessary anxiety among family members, friends and associates.

In a statement posted on his X handle, the NSA said he had received numerous calls and messages following the circulation of the report.

“I have been inundated with calls and messages from friends and associates following an inaccurate online publication claiming that my mother passed away on Monday, 19 January 2026,” he stated.

He thanked Nigerians who reached out to sympathise with him but stressed the need to set the record straight.

“While I sincerely appreciate everyone who commiserated with me, it is important to clarify that the publication is false and misleading,” Ribadu said.

The NSA explained that his mother died 28 years ago and could not have passed away on the date mentioned in the report.

“My mother of blessed memory passed away 28 years ago and therefore could not have died on Monday,” he added.

He clarified that the deceased was Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, the wife of his late uncle.

“The person who passed on Monday is Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, who was married to my late uncle,” he said.

Ribadu offered prayers for the deceased and expressed appreciation to those who stood by the family during the mourning period.

“May Allah forgive her shortcomings, grant her Aljannat Firdaus and reward all who supported us at this time,” he prayed.
