Atiku cautions opposition supporters against attacks on Obi

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appealed to opposition supporters to end verbal attacks on former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, warning that such hostilities threaten efforts to build a formidable front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku, in a post on X on Tuesday, said the growing exchanges among followers of leading opposition figures were unhealthy and capable of derailing the coalition being nurtured under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He said: “Anyone who insults Obi or Atiku does not mean well for the leaders, the Coalition ADC and for Nigeria and Nigerians. The only beneficiaries of such civil war are the APC urban bandits who want to maintain the satanic status quo.”

The former vice president stressed that unity and mutual respect among opposition leaders and their supporters remained essential to rescuing the country from poor governance and economic hardship.

Atiku was reacting to allegations that some of his loyalists had been attacking Obi on social media, a development political observers fear could weaken the emerging alliance.

The ADC platform has witnessed increased momentum in recent months following high-profile defections aimed at presenting a united challenge to President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Obi joined the ADC in December 2025 after quitting the Labour Party, citing the need for a stronger and more cohesive opposition vehicle. Atiku had earlier moved to the party, describing the decision as part of a broader mission to “rescue Nigeria” and restore hope to citizens.

The former vice president urged supporters to focus on issues affecting Nigerians rather than personalities, noting that internal divisions only strengthen the ruling party.
