The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was noticeably absent on Saturday night when President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja after attending the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
The President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport following his participation in the global event, where he witnessed the signing of a trade agreement between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
He was received by top government officials, including Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and other senior aides. However, the FCT minister, who is usually part of the reception team whenever the President returns from foreign trips, was not present.
Wike’s absence has sparked discussions on social media, with many users expressing surprise at the development.
Sources noted that while the President was away, the minister embarked on a 17-day tour of the 23 local government areas of Rivers State before returning to Abuja.
No official explanation has been offered for his absence at the airport reception.
