Popular broadcaster and Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has formally joined the Accord Party and declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
Hamzat made the announcement on Saturday at a colourful rally held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, saying his decision to embrace partisan politics followed what he described as a divine mandate.
The media entrepreneur disclosed that he had never nursed the ambition of joining a political party, noting that he had always supported aspirants from the sidelines until recent developments changed his perspective.
“I never imagined I would join a political party, let alone contest an election. I have always been a supporter and cheerleader for candidates, but God had other plans,” he told the crowd.
Declaring his platform, he said:
“Today, I am publicly announcing my decision to join Accord Party and to contest the Oyo governorship election in 2027 under its banner.”
Hamzat admitted he lacked the financial muscle and political godfathers often associated with Nigerian politics but expressed confidence in popular support.
“I don’t have money or political connections, and I don’t enjoy the backing of the government of the day. I have come with God, and that is all I need,” he stated.
He credited his growing influence to ordinary residents across the state, promising to translate their goodwill into meaningful development.
“I have always used my platform to amplify the voices of the people. Now I want to serve them directly and deliver projects that will improve lives in Oyo State,” he added.
The declaration positions Hamzat as one of the early contenders ahead of the 2027 race, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense political contest in the Pace Setter State.
