Osun 2026: Salaam Seeks Stronger Role for Monarchs in Governance

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Dr. Najeem Salaam, has advocated greater involvement of traditional rulers in governance, describing them as indispensable partners in grassroots development.

Salaam made the call on Thursday after a consultative tour of royal institutions in Iwo, Olaoluwa and Ayedire Local Government Areas, as part of preparations for the 2026 governorship election.

The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly said traditional institutions remain critical stakeholders, noting their historic roles as custodians of culture, peace and community cohesion.

He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, cultural preservation and people-centred leadership, stressing that any meaningful development must begin from the grassroots.

“Traditional rulers deserve respect and recognition. That is why I have come personally to seek the blessings and support of our royal fathers and Baales ahead of the election,” Salaam said.

“The Baales are closest to the people at the grassroots. We cannot overlook them if we truly desire progress and stability in our communities.”

The ADC flag bearer pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritise consultation, responsiveness and effective service delivery to improve the welfare of Osun residents.

He urged community leaders to sensitise their subjects on the need for active participation in the electoral process, emphasising that credible leadership emerges only when citizens exercise their franchise.

Salaam maintained that the ADC remains a dependable platform capable of delivering sustainable development and economic growth across the state.

In their separate remarks, party chieftains, including former Senator representing Osun West, Adelere Oriolowo, appealed to the monarchs to support Salaam and the ADC in the forthcoming election, expressing confidence in his capacity to transform the state.
