The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the violent disruption of its lawful party activities in Borno State, stressing that the inauguration of the state’s Transitional Committee and Membership Registration Committees, chaired by Mallam Kashim Imam, was fully authorised by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In a statement on Thursday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, described the attacks on party activities as inconsistent with the party’s values and called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to act professionally in investigating the incidents, ensuring that all culprits are held accountable.
“The inauguration of the Borno State Transitional Committee and the Membership Registration Committees was conducted in full compliance with the guidelines and approvals of the NWC,” the statement said.
The party condemned the actions of individuals who, while claiming party membership, engaged in violent disruptions aimed at undermining legitimate party processes.
“Such conduct contravenes the ADC Constitution, its values, and its commitment to internal democracy and orderly political engagement. The ADC is a law-abiding political party guided by clear rules and institutional processes, and will not tolerate hijacking of its affairs by persons acting without mandate or pursuing narrow interests to the detriment of party unity,” the statement added.
The ADC further urged security agencies to give serious attention to the violent attacks, carry out thorough investigations, and prosecute those responsible. The party reiterated that political violence must not be normalized or excused under any circumstance.
“The ADC remains committed to peaceful political organisation, internal democracy, and the rule of law, and will take all necessary measures to safeguard its members, processes, and the integrity of the party,” the statement concluded.
