Oborevwori urges governors to deploy higher FAAC funds for citizens’ welfare

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged state governors to judiciously utilise increased allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to improve the welfare of citizens.

He said states are now receiving more funds from the federation account, dismissing claims in some quarters that there is no money to run government affairs.

The governor spoke on Monday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the N39.3 billion Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Oborevwori said there was no justification for concealing the reality from Nigerians, stressing that state governments now have sufficient resources to deliver meaningful development.

“More money is coming to the states. I am not a governor who will hide it. What is the point of hiding it?” he said. “Some people keep saying there is no money, but there is money. The money is coming from somewhere. Use it in your state, as we are using it in Delta, so that the people can be happy.”

He described the Otovwodo Flyover project as another milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development across the state.

According to him, Otovwodo Junction is a strategic gateway linking Warri, Asaba and Patani along the East–West Highway, making it one of the busiest routes in the area.

“When completed, the flyover, being handled by Julius Berger at a cost of N39.34 billion, will ease traffic congestion, enhance vehicular movement and boost trade and commerce,” the governor said, adding that the project has a completion period of 12 months.

Oborevwori noted that his administration is redefining the social contract with the people through accountability, compassion and effective delivery of infrastructure.

He appealed to motorists and residents for patience during the construction period, urging them to cooperate with traffic officials to avoid gridlock and ensure public safety.
