Ijebu-Remo State: Consensus Near as Gbenga Daniel Urges Unity

Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has said the push for the creation of Ijebu-Remo State is nearing consensus, stressing that unity between the Ijebu and Remo people remains crucial to its success.

Daniel spoke on Sunday at Ikoto-Ijebu during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Otunba Gbenga Daniel Movement midterm assessment tour held in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to the senator, efforts toward the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province have reached a critical stage, with significant progress already made behind the scenes.

He explained that approval from the National Assembly can only be secured if the people of Ijebu and Remo present a united front, noting that the process of state creation is rigorous and demanding.

Daniel described the proposed Ijebu-Remo State as the last viable option for accelerated and sustainable development in the area.

“As the senator representing this region, I have done extensive work quietly to ensure that nothing stands in the way of this project,” he said. “The requirements for state creation are enormous, and only unity of purpose can help us overcome them.”

He added that the old Ijebu Province comprises nine local government councils, warning that anything short of full inclusion could jeopardise the process.

“The most critical requirement is unity,” Daniel said. “If the National Assembly does not see that unity among us, success cannot be guaranteed.”

The former governor also disclosed that discussions are ongoing on the name and capital of the proposed state, adding that stakeholders are close to reaching an agreement.

“We are on the verge of a consensus on the name and capital of the proposed Ijebu-Remo State,” he said. “If we fail to take these decisions ourselves, others will do it for us.”
