Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphasized that no leader retains power indefinitely, saying everyone will eventually have their turn to serve.
Wike made the remarks during a “thank you” visit to Port Harcourt Local Government Area (LGA), addressing party leaders, traditional rulers, women, and youths. The visit forms part of his ongoing tour of Rivers State’s 23 LGAs, where he expressed gratitude for support in the 2023 elections and sought continued backing for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
“The truth is, today I am a leader; tomorrow it will be your turn. No one remains a leader forever. God has never allowed it,” Wike said.
On succession, he added: “Man comes, man goes. When your time comes, do your best to satisfy the people and serve according to the will of God. Leadership is temporary, and respect must be shown to those who will follow.”
He warned against stubbornness in leadership, stating: “A bad leader ignores advice and refuses to change, but a good leader listens to the people.”
Wike also hailed Rivers State for its ability to unite leaders from different political parties, a factor he credited for aiding the emergence of the president.
His comments come as the Rivers House of Assembly proceeds with impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing failure to present the 2026 budget and alleged mismanagement of public funds. Many lawmakers involved in the impeachment are considered loyal to Wike, who has criticized Fubara for reneging on a peace agreement signed before the lifting of the state’s emergency rule by President Tinubu.
