The Osun State Government has suspended all official dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a deepening leadership crisis and allegations bordering on the management of allocated resources.
The government said the decision was taken amid rising controversies and internal feuds within the organisation, which have continued to undermine stability in the youth sector.
In a statement issued on Sunday ,the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, disclosed that a three-man investigative committee made up of unaffiliated nominees has been constituted to review all previous engagements between the state and the NYCN.
According to him, the suspension will remain in force pending the outcome of the investigation.
The state government also announced its resolve to implement a directive issued in late 2025 by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to all youth-sector stakeholders across the country.
The federal directive, the statement recalled, followed the withdrawal of NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), a development that led the ministry to suspend official dealings with the council’s national leadership over persistent infighting, factionalisation and confrontations.
“With the Osun State chapter now embroiled in a similar leadership crisis, the government has no option but to suspend further engagements with the body until ongoing investigations are concluded,” the statement said.
While noting what it described as attempts by opposition elements to politicise issues in the youth sector, the government assured residents that mechanisms have been put in place to restore normalcy, transparency and accountability.
“The Osun State Government remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of the youth sector and will ensure that due process prevails,” Alimi added.
