Rivers crisis: Fayose urges Fubara to seek prayers, reconcile with Wike

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that only prayers and reconciliation can save Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from the deepening political crisis threatening his administration.

Fayose stated this during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme monitored by Patriotic Insights News, where he described the situation in Rivers State as dangerous and avoidable.

According to him, fasting and prayers remain the ultimate solution for Governor Fubara, whom he also advised to urgently reconcile with his estranged political benefactor and immediate predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

“Many prayers would be said to save Fubara. So many fasts and prayers would be the only thing that would save Fubara in this one,” Fayose said.

Patriotic Insights News reports that Governor Fubara has been locked in a prolonged face-off with the Rivers State House of Assembly over his failure to present the 2026 budget to the lawmakers.

The crisis escalated on Thursday when members of the Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor, accusing him of spending state funds without legislative approval.

Fayose, however, placed the blame squarely on Fubara, accusing him of abandoning agreements earlier reached with key stakeholders in Abuja.

He recalled his presence in Port Harcourt during Fubara’s swearing-in ceremony in 2023, noting that Wike never anticipated that his successor would turn against him.

“My prayer is that God will enter his mind. The President will help calm him down and remind him of the danger ahead. One can be in his house today and lose everything before he realises what has happened,” Fayose warned.
