Kwankwaso: I Can’t Be Bought, My Conscience Is Not for Sale

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former governor of Kano State, has declared that he is not for sale politically, insisting that no amount of money can compromise his conscience.

Kwankwaso spoke while reflecting on recent political developments in Kano, touching on issues of loyalty, betrayal and the growing discontent among Nigerians over insecurity and economic hardship.

He noted that politics naturally comes with gains and losses but warned that betrayal often attracts public resentment, especially in an atmosphere of poor governance.

“Life is like that; one loses and another gains. But when you enter a system without an exit point, the consequences can be severe,” he said.

Kwankwaso criticised what he described as declining public sympathy for certain political parties, attributing it to worsening insecurity and economic challenges confronting the country.

He stressed that politics in Kano State differs from other parts of Nigeria, describing the electorate as politically aware and difficult to influence through inducements.

“Kano politics is different. It is not a place where someone will come with a bag of money and assume that everything will fall into place,” he said.

Dismissing the popular belief that every politician has a price, the NNPP leader said he stands as proof that integrity still exists in Nigerian politics.

“People say everyone has a price tag. If you are looking for someone without a price tag, come to Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he declared.

Kwankwaso warned voters against accepting short-term inducements during elections, noting that such actions often lead to prolonged suffering.

“You suffer for four years, then they give you peanuts for one day, and you return to suffering for another four years,” he said.

He urged political leaders and the electorate to uphold principles and prioritise long-term public interest, warning that leadership built on inducement and betrayal cannot deliver sustainable development ahead of the 2027 elections.
