Israel Offers Intelligence Support to Nigeria Over Attacks on Christians

 

The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has disclosed that Israel is prepared to support Nigeria through intelligence sharing as part of efforts to address insecurity and protect Christian communities facing violent attacks.

Freeman made this known during an interview on Prime Time, a current affairs programme on Arise Television, where he spoke on the position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the situation in Nigeria.

According to the ambassador, Israel’s intervention will be guided strictly by the Nigerian government and carried out within established diplomatic and security frameworks.

“We will be led by the Nigerian government on where and how we can partner to tackle insecurity in Nigeria as a whole,” Freeman said.

He explained that while Israel is willing to assist, details of intelligence cooperation cannot be made public, as doing so would compromise security operations.

“Any communication behind the scenes will remain confidential. When dealing with intelligence and information sharing, public discussion would undermine the entire purpose,” he added.

Freeman clarified that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s comments on the persecution of Christians were not limited to Nigeria alone but reflected broader global concerns.

He noted that Netanyahu had highlighted Israel as the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is growing, stressing Israel’s longstanding commitment to religious freedom and protection of minority groups.

The ambassador reiterated Israel’s readiness to cooperate with Nigeria in combating insecurity, while respecting sovereignty and operational discretion.
