Muslim Leaders Reject Netanyahu’s Offer of “Protection” for Christians in Nigeria

Some Muslim leaders in South West Nigeria have warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against interfering in the country’s internal affairs, following his pledge to join the United States in combating attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Netanyahu made the statement in a Christmas message to Christian Zionist supporters, saying Israel would open a “new front” to protect Christians facing persecution in countries including Nigeria, Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey.

Reacting on Friday, the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) described Netanyahu’s comment as ironic, noting his alleged actions against Palestinians.

MUSWEN’s Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abbas, said, “Netanyahu’s statement that he would join President Trump of America in fighting terrorism in Nigeria is unfortunate. What he has done to Palestinians in Gaza is almost worse than terrorism. This is a person who has been declared wanted by the International Court of Justice. He still engages in genocide in Gaza and wants to intervene in Nigeria. I cannot understand what we are witnessing in the world today. Netanyahu is a criminal who should be arrested and prosecuted for genocide.”

A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, also rejected Netanyahu’s offer. Writing on X, Ahmad said any foreign military action in Nigeria, including airstrikes, would be unnecessary and a violation of the country’s sovereignty.
