The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has once again suspended the nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, marking the fourth time the initiative has been put on hold since it was introduced in 2025.
The enforcement, which was scheduled to commence on Friday, January 2, 2026, was suspended following an interim court order restraining the police from implementing the policy pending the determination of a substantive suit.
The order was issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, directing the Police to halt enforcement until the case is fully heard or the order is vacated.
Announcing the development via the social media platform X, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the decision was taken in strict compliance with the rule of law and respect for judicial authority.
He disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force has already entered an appearance in the matter, filed preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.
According to Hundeyin, the court has adjourned proceedings to January 20, 2026, for further hearing.
“Accordingly, and in strict compliance with the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the court’s decision,” he stated.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law while discharging its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
He assured Nigerians that the Police would continue to deploy lawful and intelligence-driven strategies to tackle security challenges across the country.
The IGP further pledged that the Force would issue clear directives and provide updates to the public after the court’s determination, stressing that all actions of the Police are guided by public interest and national security considerations.
