Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was absent from training on New Year’s Day as Nigeria stepped up preparations for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Round of 16 clash against Mozambique.
Also missing from the session were Ryan Alebiosu and Cyriel Dessers, both of whom are nursing injuries and are considered doubtful for Monday’s encounter.
Head coach Eric Chelle confirmed that the team trained behind closed doors on Thursday, but the trio did not take part in the workout.
While Alebiosu and Dessers are battling fitness issues, Osimhen’s absence is understood to be precautionary, with the technical crew opting to manage the Napoli forward’s workload ahead of the knockout fixture.
Nigeria will face Mozambique in the last 16 as they continue their quest for a fourth continental title. The coaching staff remain hopeful that key players will be available as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
