Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need for a new political platform to effectively advance governance and service delivery in the state.
The governor conveyed his decision in a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol.
In the letter, which was obtained in Jos on Thursday, Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the PDP for offering him the opportunity to participate in the democratic process and for the support he received from party leaders and members during his time in the party.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor stated.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I am grateful to party leaders, members and supporters at all levels for the trust and support accorded to me.”
Mutfwang explained that his decision was guided by his commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and effective service delivery, adding that prevailing political realities made it necessary for him to seek an alternative political platform.
“Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” the letter added.
Although the resignation letter did not indicate the party he has joined, the move comes amid months of speculation over the governor’s political future.
Reports indicate that Governor Mutfwang has aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that has reportedly been welcomed by the party’s National Working Committee, with assurances of support for his political journey.
