Imo Now Lags Behind Neighbours After Years of Misrule – Chima Amadi

 

Philanthropist and tech entrepreneur, Dr. Chima Amadi, has declared that Imo State has fallen behind other South-East states due to what he described as years of failed leadership, deception and hardship under the present administration.

Amadi, founder of The Mazi Organization (TMO) and popularly known as Mazi Gburugburu, spoke on Wednesday at a rally of the Action People’s Party (APP) held at his country home in Umuekune, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, where he was formally unveiled as a member of the party.

According to him, Imo, which once mocked Abia State, has now become the least developed among its neighbours.

“A few years ago, we mocked our brothers from Abia. Today, can anyone in Imo challenge Abia or Enugu? Even Ebonyi has gone far ahead of us. The truth is that Imo State has become a shame,” Amadi said.

He attributed the state’s situation to what he described as six years of deliberate deception and poor governance.

“In the last six years, Imo people have experienced the worst form of hardship and deception. No responsible government should subject its people to this level of suffering,” he stated.

Amadi also alleged that insecurity has persisted in the state because those in authority were benefitting from it.

“Insecurity continues not because nothing can be done, but because some people are benefitting from it—politically and financially. Otherwise, how can leaders remain silent while citizens live in fear?” he asked.

He claimed that several local governments have been deserted by residents due to insecurity, yet record high voter turnout during elections.

“People have fled their communities and become refugees in their own state. But on election day, these same areas record unbelievable votes. Someone is benefitting from this insecurity,” he alleged.

On education, Amadi lamented the collapse of public schools, noting that many parents have been forced to patronise substandard private schools charging exorbitant fees.

“Some public primary schools now have only one teacher. The destruction of public education is deliberate. Billions are budgeted yearly for education—where is the money?” he queried.

He also decried the collapse of primary healthcare centres across the state.

“When we were growing up, health centres existed in every local government. Today, most of them have collapsed completely,” he said.

Amadi warned voters against selling their votes during elections, describing vote-buying as an insult to the dignity of the people.

“They believe your worth is ₦1,000 and a cup of rice. That rice will even spoil in weeks. After selling your vote, you suffer for another four years,” he said.

On the issue of succession, Amadi questioned the ability of what he described as a failed administration to produce a credible successor.

“Can a failed leader produce a successful successor? A snake cannot give birth to something different from itself,” he declared.

He described his entry into the APP as the beginning of a movement to rescue Imo State.

“This is not just about joining a party; it is about starting a movement to reposition Imo and restore hope to our people,” he said.

Earlier, Prince Uchenna Nnamdi, National Chairman of the APP, welcomed Amadi into the party, describing him as a man of integrity, vision and commitment to public service.

The rally was attended by members of the party’s national and state executives, Director-General of The Mazi Organization, Hon. Henry Onwukwe, and several traditional rulers.
