The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his decision to travel to Europe at a time the country is grappling with worsening security challenges.
In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, faulted the President for leaving the country despite recent violent attacks, including a deadly bomb blast in Zamfara State.
Abdullahi recalled that the explosion, allegedly carried out by terrorists, claimed the lives of several travellers and left others injured, further heightening fear among residents of the state and across the country.
He lamented what he described as the President’s silence over the incident, noting that Nigerians were still awaiting reassurance from the Federal Government following the attack and other security-related developments.
“In the wake of yet another deadly bomb blast in Zamfara, to which the President has not said a single word; on the back of an unprecedented foreign military attack on Nigerian soil; and in the middle of the uncertainty it has provoked, a confused and frightened nation is waiting for the President to speak and reassure them,” Abdullahi said.
He added: “Instead, the next thing we hear is that the President has gone on holiday. What a President.”
Meanwhile, the Presidency had earlier announced President Tinubu’s departure for Europe as part of his end-of-year break, ahead of an official engagement in the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that Tinubu would attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit.
According to the statement, the Nigerian leader was invited by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to participate in the summit scheduled to hold from January 11 to January 17, 2026.
The Presidency added that President Tinubu would return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the international event.
