Governor, Dauda Lawal, has appointed retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Dr. Muhammad Dalijan, as the new Commandant of the state-owned security outfit, Community Protection Guards (CPG).
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, who said the appointment takes immediate effect.
Dalijan, who served as Commissioner of Police in Zamfara between 2023 and 2025, was later promoted to AIG and headed the Force’s Counter-Terrorism Unit at the Police Headquarters in Abuja until his retirement in June 2025.
The SSG described the appointment as a “decisive step to strengthen Zamfara’s security architecture.” He noted that Dalijan’s deep knowledge of the state’s security challenges and terrain makes him well-suited to reposition the CPG for effective service delivery in line with the administration’s security agenda.
Dalijan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Criminology from the University of Abuja, obtained in 2007 and 2018, respectively.
Governor Lawal also directed a comprehensive overhaul of the CPG to tackle operational and administrative bottlenecks hindering the agency’s effectiveness. He commended the outgoing Commandant for his service and wished him a speedy recovery.
