Forest guards deployment ends terrorists’ reign in Kwara – AbdulRazaq

 

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has declared that terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements no longer have a safe haven in the state following the deployment of forest guards across strategic locations.

The governor spoke on Saturday in Ilorin at the passing-out parade of over 1,000 forest guards who have completed their training and are set to commence full-scale operations.

AbdulRazaq said the initiative was designed to combat terrorism, kidnapping, illegal mining and other criminal activities, particularly in forested areas that have previously served as hideouts for criminals.

He described the deployment as a major shift from a defensive posture to an aggressive security strategy aimed at securing lives and property.

“Today marks a turning point in our fight against terrorism, kidnapping and violent crimes in Kwara State,” the governor said. “The message is clear: criminals must leave Kwara State or face decisive consequences.”

The governor commended existing security agencies for their efforts, noting that the recruitment of forest guards from local communities would further strengthen intelligence gathering and security coordination.

“With the launch of the forest guards, we are going on the offensive. Our people deserve peace and safety. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an enemy of the state and will not be spared,” he added.

Addressing the newly trained guards, AbdulRazaq charged them to see their assignment as a critical national duty.

“You are taking on a responsibility of great importance — to protect our people from criminals hiding in the forests,” he said. “Working with other security agencies, you must flush out terrorists, restore order and make our communities safer.”

The governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a bold and determined approach to tackling insecurity nationwide, as well as the Office of the National Security Adviser for coordinating the forest guard initiative.

He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among security agencies would ensure lasting peace in Kwara State.

AbdulRazaq urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to making the state unsafe for criminals.
