The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has re-elected Ajuji Ahmed as its national chairman, reaffirming his leadership for another four-year tenure.
Ahmed was returned unopposed during the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Saturday. The convention also ratified other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including Abba Kawu as deputy national chairman (north); Onu Nwaze, deputy national chairman (south); Dipo Olayokun, national secretary; and Oladipo Johnson, national publicity secretary.
Other officials elected include Ibrahim Muhammad (deputy national secretary); Bala Mohammed (national organising secretary); Ahmed Balewa (national treasurer); Akpan Ekan (national financial secretary); Maryam Yasin (national woman leader); Muhammad Musa (national youth leader); Magaji Ibrahim (national legal adviser); and Mustapha Danhajia (national welfare secretary).
The convention also saw elections for several deputy and ex-officio positions, ensuring representation from all regions and key party sectors, including persons with disabilities and corporate bodies.
Speaking after his re-election, Ahmed said the party had been “repositioned, restructured and strengthened” to play a leading role in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“All eyes are on the NNPP to chart a path for sustainable democracy and development. Our nation deserves a fresh start, and our citizens deserve a fresh deal, which only the NNPP can provide,” he stated.
Former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, congratulated the elected officials, urging them to maintain discipline and loyalty to the party.
Bala Mohammedo, chairman of the convention planning committee, confirmed that the elections were conducted in accordance with due process and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
