Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Friday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Iwo into an ultra-modern city, declaring that his government is determined to end what he described as the era of fake and unfulfilled promises made to the ancient town.
The governor made the pledge while addressing a large gathering of sons and daughters of Iwo during the 2025 Iwo Day celebration.
Speaking amid cheers from the crowd that accompanied him from Orieeru to Baptist High School, Adeeke, Adeleke expressed gratitude for the overwhelming show of support, describing Iwo as a critical pillar in his administration’s drive to deliver good governance and sustainable development across Osun State.
Highlighting ongoing and completed projects in Iwoland, the governor disclosed that his administration has constructed about 20 kilometres of roads within the town, while rehabilitation work is ongoing at the Iwo Waterworks.
“The goal is to relay water pipes across the town. I have also approved the upgrading and rehabilitation of the Iwo General Hospital,” Adeleke said.
He further revealed that over 30 boreholes have been sunk across Iwoland, while the collapsed Adeeke Bridge has been successfully rebuilt.
On major infrastructure projects, the governor said construction work is ongoing on the first-ever dual carriageway in Iwo.
According to him, the first phase of the road—from Odoori to the Post Office, with a spur to the Palace—is expected to be completed early next year and will be fitted with solar-powered streetlights.
He also assured residents that work is progressing steadily on the Ejigbo–Iwo road reconstruction.
Providing updates on federal roads affecting the town, Adeleke said the Osogbo–Iwo road has been awarded to three contractors to handle different sections. He explained that delays in full commencement were due to the seizure of Osun funds by federal authorities, adding that full-scale work is expected to begin early next year.
On the Ikire–Gbongan–Iwo federal road, the governor disclosed that he had earlier visited the Minister of Works, who promised improved funding for the project in 2026. He added that Senator Lere Oyewumi has been mandated to follow up with the ministry.
“The long-term plan is to dualise the road from Oluponna Junction to Kara Market in Iwo,” he said.
Addressing the lingering boundary dispute between Osun and Oyo states, Adeleke noted that the matter is being handled by the National Boundary Commission, a federal agency beyond the control of the state government.
“Nevertheless, our state boundary agency is actively engaging and working with Iwo sons and daughters at the federal level to ensure the town’s interests are well represented,” he assured.
Earlier in his remarks, former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, commended Governor Adeleke’s development strides in Iwoland, assuring that the town would continue to support the governor and his administration.
