Army Chief Tasks 3,391 New Soldiers on Discipline, Patriotism

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged 3,391 newly inducted soldiers of the Nigerian Army to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, courage and patriotism as they begin their military careers.

Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 89 Regular Recruits Intake at the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo. The event marked the first-ever graduation ceremony of the depot since its establishment.

In a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS described the parade as a historic milestone, noting that the recruits were the pioneer set to pass out from the Osogbo depot.

According to him, the soldiers bear a special responsibility to protect the reputation of the institution and set a standard for future intakes.

“This ceremony is historic as the first Passing Out Parade of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo. You are the pioneer set and you must wear this badge with pride. Conduct yourselves as worthy ambassadors of this institution throughout your careers,” Shaibu said.

He noted that the new soldiers were joining the Nigerian Army at a critical period characterised by evolving and complex security challenges, urging them to rely on the values instilled during their rigorous training.

The COAS advised the recruits to confront challenges with confidence and determination, stressing that success in military service requires courage, resilience and commitment to duty.

Shaibu further reminded them that their induction came with enormous responsibility, particularly in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and contributing to national security.

Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare and professional development of personnel under the Soldier First Command Mantra, the Army chief assured the recruits of sustained moral, physical and material support.

“Our soldiers remain the core and enduring strength of the Nigerian Army. You will be given all you require to succeed, but the nation will also demand much from you. Uphold the core values of the Army and develop the determination to excel in your lives and careers,” he charged.

He commended the Commandant, officers, instructors and staff of the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, for their dedication in training and moulding the recruits into disciplined and combat-ready soldiers.

Shaibu also announced that the newly approved Depot Nigerian Army, Abakaliki, would soon commence training activities to boost manpower development and enhance operational readiness, in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
